Asham Awards

Arnold Asham, owner operator of Asham Curling Supplies sponsors and founded the Asham Stompers in 2002 with a group of Jiggers, almost all related, from in and around a small community of Reedy Creek, Manitoba. They have done over 100 performances a year for the past 12 plus years and continue to dance to standing ovations eveywhere they perform. They Have danced in front of 3,500 people at the 2003 World Curling Championships in Winnipeg MB, and 30,000 fans during half time at the Winnipeg Blue Bomber game August 8th, 2003, 5,000 at the Dauphin CountryFest 2004, and to a 5 minute standing ovation from 12,000 cheering fans at the Aboriginal Music Awards at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba brosadcast live on APTN in 2005. Since then many of the goups dancers have retired with new dancers joining the group, a lot of them from Peguis another Jigging/Square Dancing hotbed, and its become full time for some with performances at the Bejing Olympics and the Vancouver Olympics along with one of the largest dance Festivals in the World in Zacatecas, Mexico with Venues as big as 20,000, the Indian Summer Festival in Millwalkee Wisconson, and the Celtic Colors Festival in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
In conjuntion with the group Arnold Asham won the Excellence in Aboriginal Business Leadership Award in 2006, Manitoba Business Leadership Award in 2006, and a the Lifetime Achievment Award inAboriginal Business in 2009.
The Asham Stompers have also won the 2006 Tourism Award Winner for Aboriginal Tourism.
